Carrie Bloom Ward, age 70, passed away at home in Toledo, OH on Monday, January 31, 2011, after a long struggle with cancer. She graduated from Burns Elementary and Cooley H.S. in Detroit, MI and attended Wayne State Universitys College of Nursing. On March 11, 1966 she married the love of her life, Harry M. For 10 years she was the office manager of Gregor Jonsson, Inc., Highland Park, IL, a specialty manufacturer of automation for the food processing industry. Upon moving to Toledo, she swapped paying positions for unpaid volunteer work and fund raising. One of her favorites was WGTE-FM public radio. Carrie was also an active member of neighborhood and civic organizations, including Westgate Neighbors and Towne Club. Carrie was a winning auto rally navigator in Michigan, and a crew member of the Davis-Ward Rally Team, who won SCCA Pro Rally Production Class national championships in 1980 and 1981. She was also a rally organizer until she retired from the sport. In 1984 she was assistant rallymaster of the Press on Regardless National Pro Rally, logging over 10, 000 miles in the effort. She loved to make quilts with her sister and mother, and every year helped organize the Bloom family picnic. Carrie leaves her devoted husband of 44 years, Harry; their wire fox terrier Lex; a twin brother Jerry E. Hendrieka Bloom of Troy, MI; and hundreds of cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her older sister Patricia Bloom Riley, and her older brother Richard C. Bloom. Following Carries wishes, she will be cremated.
