Carrie Eileen Fisher

Carrie Eileen Fisher, age 100, passed away Thursday, December 24, 2020 at Sunset Village in Sylvania. The daughter of William and Clara (Ries) Crockett, she was born on January 6, 1920. Carrie was a 1939 graduate of Metamora High School. She worked at the Metamora Tribune Newspaper as a reporter while in school. She then attended the University of Toledo graduating with a bachelor’s in education and then went to Bowling Green University for Masters. Carrie worked at Owen's Illinois as a secretary to the Vice President of sales while going to school. Graduating in 1948, Carrie Crockett married Richard Fisher August 31, 1947 and together they enjoyed 58 years of marriage and the birth of their son, Greg Carl. After they were married, they moved to Chicago where Carrie taught at Gregg Business College. After returning to Toledo, Carrie taught accounting at DeVilbiss High School and then Start High School after it opened. Carrie was a life member of Grace Lutheran Church and music was a large part of her life, being a co-owner of Richard’s Music for over 40 years. She and her husband Richard attended the Toledo Symphony Concerts and Music Under the Stars regularly. Carrie and Richard loved to dance and attended Centennial Terrace for Music and dance and they were also members of the Westchester Ballroom Dance Assembly, serving as co-presidents from 1997-98. They were members of the Zenobia Shrine Temple where she was affiliated with Dendarah Court, ladies Masonic Shrine. She was also affiliated with American Association of University Women, Toledo Women’s Club, Toledo Symphony League and Mu Sigma Phi. Carrie was also involved in the Y.M.C.A. with her husband. They loved to travel in the 50 states including memorable trips to Hawaii, Alaska, Turkey, Greece and Italy. Many still remember Mrs. Fisher for her friendly personality, her infectious smile and her concern for others. She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Richard; sisters, Eleanor Crockett, Celma Sloan, Leona Sloan; brothers, Almond Crockett and William Crockett, Jr. She is survived by her son, Greg and daughter-in-law, Karroll and loving nieces & nephews. Friends may visit the family on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 from 11:00-2:00p.m at Walker Funeral Home 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd) with a service at 2:00.p.m. Pastor Howard Abts is officiating.
