Carolyn Rose Szalkowski

Carolyn Rose (Bowers) Szalkowski passed away surrounded by family on July 19, 2017 at UTMC Hospital. She was born on May 24, 1939 in Huntington, Indiana to the late Sherman and Macy (Newcomb) Bowers. On July 21, 1956, Carolyn married the love of her life, Donald L. Szalkowski. They were married 61 years. Carolyn retired from Maritz Marketing research acquiring lifelong friendships. Carolyn is survived by her husband, Donald; daughter, Diane (Jim) Hartner; son, Donald Jr., son, Dennis (Leslie) Szalkowski, and daughter, Denise (Duane) Stevens. Carolyn adored her grandchildren, Sarah (Larry) Stirling, Natalie Claassen, Joseph Szalkowski, Christopher (Amanda) Szalkowski, Macy Szalkowski, Evan Matzinger, Mary Szalkowski, Michael Hartner, and Kyle Matzinger. She was granny the great to her great-grandchildren, Zenna, Avi, Gunnar, and Elizabeth. Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m., Sunday, July 23, 2017 in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.) with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. Private graveside services and interment will be held at Toledo Memorial Park. Memorials are suggested to the University of Toledo Medical Center Kidney Transplant Program (for continued research), UT Health Science Campus, 3065 Arlington Ave., Toledo, OH 43614.
