Carolyn W. Skiver, 87, of Temperance, MI welcomed eternal life surrounded by loving family on Monday, October 26, 2020. She was born on June 23, 1933 in Toledo, OH to Walter Earl and Caroline Edna (Gartner) Bruce and married Jerry P. Skiver, her high school sweetheart, on April 24, 1954. Carolyn was raised in Grand Rapids, MI, attended Michigan State University, but cherished, more than anything, raising her five daughters and being instrumental in each of their families. She enjoyed traveling the world with Jerry, flower and vegetable gardening, baking & cooking, and spending time with her husband, daughters and their families in northern Michigan. Every holiday was special to Carolyn as it was focused on time invested with family. Christmas brought her exceptional joy building rich traditions in baking and decorating cookies, singing Christmas carols, Christmas Eve cheese fondue, and giving gifts. She ensured every holiday was magical and focused on togetherness. Carolyn was an avid golfer spending many years in the Ladies Golf League at Brandywine Country Club. In addition to a good black martini, friends and family knew her for touching handwritten notes and cards, unexpected gestures of appreciation & kindness, and a big bright smile. Her last years on earth demonstrated her incredible strength and resilient zest for life. Carolyn is survived by her loving family, Mary Katherine Nissen, Chris (Bill) Laimbeer, Betsy Martin, Mindy (Stewart Berger) Zaima, Jennifer (Dewayne) Perry and Paul J. Nissen; 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandson. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers and sisters, Helen, Joanne, Carl and Walt; and grandson, Lucas Zaima. A special thank you to Dr. Fadhil Hussain & staff at Cardiology Care Associates and her team of amazing caregivers at Brandie’s Independent Home Care. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 11:00 am at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 310 Elizabeth Street, Maumee, OH 43537. Burial will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
