Carolinea Catherine Heintz

January 19, 1920 — October 17, 2013

Carolinea Heintz, age 93, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2013 at her home in Ottawa Hills, OH. Carolinea was born January 19, 1920 to Luther and Emblyn Cabaniss in Roanoke, VA. She taught Home Economics in the Roanoke Public Schools for several years after receiving her Bachelors of Science Degree in 1941. She became a certified dietician in 1943 at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. After moving to Northwest Ohio, Carolinea became a Nutrition Education Specialist for Liberty Health Services in Liberty Center, OH and later taught continuing education at the University of Toledo. She was a member of the Greater Toledo Nutrition Council 1966-1998, the United Way of Toledo 1965-1990, the Auxiliary of the Academy of Medicine, the Interfaith Hospitality Network, the Indian Trails Garden Club and many other organizations. She was a founding member of Mobile Meals of Toledo and remained active with them until just a few years ago. Carolinea received several awards recognizing her volunteerism and contributions to the Northwest Ohio community on both a local and national level. She was an excellent cook and co-authored the cookbook Loaves and Fishes and Other Dishes in 2000. Carolinea also enjoyed traveling and playing bridge with her friends. Carolinea was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Heintz. Surviving are her daughters, Emblyn Davis, Cynthia Lester Shannon, Cheryl Barry Peterson, Melyssa William Sexton, and step-son, James Heintz. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren and 8 greath-grandchildren. Visitation will be on Monday, October 21, 2013 from 5-8:00pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. where funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or Mobile Meals.
