Carol Lenore (nee Niehaus) Tank, 97, passed peacefully August 7, 2022 at Majestic Assisted Living (prev. Lutheran Home) where she had resided since June 2010. Carol lived a blessed and happy life. She was born to Robert and Ethel Niehaus on December 11, 1924.
Carol graduated from Genoa High School, Class of 1942, where she met the “love of her life”, Bob Tank (in typing class!). While Bob was piloting B-24s during WWII, Carol was a wonderful secretary, first at 3-C Trucking then at Sun Oil Co. The joyous marriage for Carol Lenore Niehaus and Robert Martin Tank began on May 21, 1948, in Apple Blossom Time. They settled in Williston and forever thereafter Carol was known to Bob as “Precious.” Soon three beautiful daughters were born - Marlene, Marcia, and Robin (no sons!). Carol was the quintessential “stay at home” Mom. Marcia passed in 1983, which certainly left a hole in Carol’s heart. She had an undying faith in God, which saw her through difficult times. Her lifetime of worship and faith was recognized and celebrated when she was appointed Matriarch of St. John Lutheran Church in Williston, Ohio.
Carol will forever be remembered as the ambassador of goodwill and endless energy. She was a volunteer at Lutheran Home of Mercy Auxiliary, Riverview Home of Oak Harbor Auxiliary, St. Charles Hospital Auxiliary, Oregon Historical Society, Dunberger Post Auxiliary, Toledo Swiss Ladies, GBU Society, Genoa Public Library, and the Holiday Bureau of Ottawa County. She was a giver! On the fun side, she loved family vacations, especially at their cottage on the West Arm of Traverse Bay.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband, Bob (2001), daughter, Marcia Ann (1983), brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Margaret Niehaus. Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Marlene L. Brinkman, Robin K. (Ted) Hoeflinger; grandchildren, Dawn (Jim), Barb, Eric (Maggie) Brinkman); great-grandchildren, Brooke, Brady, Barb, Will, Cole, Drew Brinkman; wonderful brother-in-law Thomas W. Tank, and a special niece, Kathryn (Niehaus) Rubinstein.
The family wishes to thank Mary Adkins who, in their words, “made mom’s 12 years at Assisted Living just like home”.
