Carol A. Schanke

Carol A. (Fondessy) Schanke, 78, of Walbridge, passed away on Friday, September 1, 2017 at St. Charles Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was born in Elmore, Ohio to Fred and Lillian (Smith) Fondessy on May 18, 1939. She graduated from Harris Elmore (now Woodmore) High School and married Forrest R. Schanke. Carol worked at Kmart in Oregon, Ohio for many years. She enjoyed playing Bunco, reading, and spending time with her granddaughter. Carol also was a part of the Ladies Auxillary at the Cooley Canal Yacht Club. Carol is survived by her daughter, Debra A. (Chris) Schanke-Heitmeyer; granddaughter, Taylor Hankey; nieces, Gina (Greg) Purney, Kristy (Tommy) Patterson, Jodi Schanke; half-sister, Ila Mae Taube; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and sisters, Ruth Ward and Emily Worz. Friends will be received on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 701 N. Main Street, Walbridge, Ohio 43465 (419-666-3121), with a Funeral Service beginning at 1:00 P.M. Burial will follow in Lake Township Cemetery.
