Carol J. Richardson-Drescher

Carol J. Richardson Drescher, age 76, of Toledo, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 27th, 2010, at Hospice of Perrysburg following a long period of declining health. She was born on December 26, 1933 in Muskingum, Michigan, to the late Everett L. and Christine Wynne Jones. She was a graduate of Maumee Valley Country Day School and Bowling Green State University with a degree in education. She began her teaching career in Perrysburg with first graders and then at her alma mater for ten years. She moved to the Washington Local School system beginning at Westwood Elementary and then Monac, where she remained until her retirement in 2004. During her more than 40 year tenure Carol taught 1st, 2nd and 4th grades, touching the lives of thousands of young people. Carol had a heart of gold and she was enthusiastically involved in everything that was happening at school. She was one of the first to organize the districts Kids in Action program and remained as chair for many years. She was the safety patrol adviser and building representative for the teachers association. She received the T.A.W.L.S. distinguished award for all her years of dedicated service. Carol was honored to be named Teacher of the Year for Washington Local Schools in 1988. A four-time cancer survivor, Carol was an avid supporter of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and the American Cancer Society. She was a long-time member of Augsberg Lutheran Church. Carol is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Ralph Drescher; son, Scott Susan Richardson and grandsons, Thomas and Griffin of Toledo; brother, Everett L. Susan Jones III and niece, Jennifer David Bailey, all of Wake Forest, NC; as well as a great niece, great nephew and many cousins. She also leaves behind her very dear daughter-like friend, Patty Cary Weaver. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 4th, from 4-8 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave west of Corey Rd.. Funeral services will be held here on Saturday at 10:00 a.m., Pastor Don Brewer presiding. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
