Carol Marie Poland of Maumee, Ohio, was a caring daughter, sister, cousin, “aunt”, and friend. She left this world peacefully on May 7, 2023, at the age of 70.
She was born to Raphael “Bud” and Alice (Padgett) Poland on June 2, 1952. After graduating high school, Carol attended Stautzenberger College and went on to become a customer service representative at Checker Fabric Distributor.
In the early 80’s Carol began caring for the children of Jeff and Diana Stephens: Jennifer, Jeff, Julie, Josh, and Jay. She became a permanent part of their family and maintained her relationship with them even after the children were grown. She often shared memories of time spent with them and loved the children as though they were her own.
Carol was an avid reader and book collector whose broad breadth of knowledge covered every topic. She enjoyed spending time at Barnes and Noble bookstore where she could often be found reading her newest book and enjoying a slice of cheesecake. Carol also enjoyed taking road trips with her parents, as well as family and friends. In recent years, Carol visited many places with her cousins, Sharon and Joe Vislay. Carol’s gentle presence and rewarding conversation was always relished at each Vislay family gathering.
Carol’s extraordinary talent for needlework and knitting led her to create many beautiful baby blankets, scarves and other items for loved ones. Her painstakingly crafted counted-cross stitch pieces stand out as her enduring legacy of love, forever adorning the homes of her family and friends as highly cherished works of art.
Carol was preceded in death by her father, mother, and sister, Nancy. She will be lovingly remembered by her family, many cousins, and friends.
Visitation will be held from 10 A.M. to 12 P.M. on Saturday, May 13, at Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home (501 Conant St. Maumee) with the funeral immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Carol’s family and friends would like to thank the staff at Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the tenderness, compassion, and comfort they provided.
