Carol Jane (Deal) Fry, 79, passed away Friday, September 1, 2017 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, surrounded by her loving family. Carol fought a long and courageous battle with Leukemia for nearly 15 years. She was born September 17, 1937 in Toledo, Ohio to Albert W. and Verna M. (Fahle) Deal. She graduated from Lake High School in 1956 and married Raymond Fry on October 25, 1958 in Toledo, Ohio. Carol, was known to the Perrysburg School community as ‘Ma Fry’. Carol, along with her husband Ray, began their volunteer work in 1972 at that time running a small concession stand for the junior high sports games. From then on it blossomed into much more. Before long, Carol was working officially as an Assistant Librarian and media specialist at the high school. She served in that capacity for 21 years. Carol’s work with the school was more than a job it was about being part of the Perrysburg community. Carol became involved in Perrysburg boosters and athletics programs and didn’t hesitate to ‘pitch in’ when there was a need. All sports, male & female, Carol would be found working at the concessions, ticketing booth, and providing snacks and meals to hundreds of student athletes. In addition, Carol served as Matmaid advisor for 18 years. Carol’s life was enriched by the many young people she came to know over the years. Even when not working the games, She could be seen sporting her team’s colors, cheering in the stands, and supporting her beloved Black and Gold to many victories. After Carol’s retirement in 1998, she remained engaged on the Perrysburg sports scene, officially as ticket manager and attending up to 9 games in one week! In 2004, Carol and her husband Ray were awarded the ‘Champion for Children Award’ by the Perrysburg School Board. Honoring them both for over 30 years of volunteering their time, money and efforts in supporting the students of Perrysburg Athletes. In addition, Carol and husband Ray are Honorary Lifetime Members of the Perrysburg High School Athletic Boosters. Carol would tell you today that it was well worth the time and effort and the rewards were many. She loved her students, the high school staff and local community. Carol remained dedicated to young people even in her illness. Many times watching a variety of sports on tv and she especially liked the Little League World Series. In addition to school activities; She was a 4-H advisor for 12 years. Enjoyed camping, traveling, bowling and gardening. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, especially her family, grandchildren and great-grandchild, whom she loved spending time and making memories with. Along with her husband, Ray, Carol is survived by her children, Howard Fry, Cathy (Bob) Stoldt, Karen (Daryl) Baldwin and Linda Fry; grandchildren, Jessie (Ryan) Seddelmeyer, Jarrid, Emma and Elliot Baldwin, Maria and Brian (Jessie) Stoldt, Samuel Fry and one great-grandchild Riley Seddelmeyer. She is survived by siblings: Betty Kusian, Beverly Hicks, Sandy Konieczny, Doris (Larry) Lafferty, Jerry (Bonita) Deal, Richard (Marjorie) Deal, Ted (Carol) Deal, Paul (Nancy) Deal, Don (Connie) Deal and Bob (Sue) Deal; brother-in-law, Bob Yard and sister-in-law’s, Grace (John) Yard, Mary Alice Fry, Jean Fry and Patricia Fry and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and family members: Ruth & Hank Jabs, Earl Kusian, Paul & Pauline Spencer, James Deal, Marian Hicks, James Fry, Joseph Fry, William & Lila Fry, Mary Yard, dear friend Kay Slink and nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends will be received on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 from 2-9 P.M. at Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary Street, Perrysburg (419-874-3133). Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 106 W. Plumer Street, Toledo, Ohio, 43605, with Pastor Beth Huener, officiating. Burial will be private.
