Carol Bruns

February 15, 1942 — January 7, 2025

Mary “Carol” Bruns, our beloved mom, grandma and sister, passed away on January 7, 2025 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio.

Carol was born on February 15, 1942 to Bob and Shirley Sarvis. She graduated from Libbey High School in 1960. Carol married Craig Bruns on February 12, 1966 and they were married for 49 wonderful years. She was blessed with two children and four grandsons.

Carol worked at People’s Savings Bank before she stayed home to be a full-time mom to Scott and Christy. She became a volunteer at Crossgates Elementary and was part of the team that created the school’s library. When the kids got older, Carol went back to work outside the home as a Pharmacy Technician at Glenbyrne Pharmacy and later at Kahler Pharmacy, then at Paramount Insurance in Member Services. No matter what job she had, Carol’s focus was on friendly customer service and helping people as much as she could.

As everyone knows, Carol was the consummate animal lover. She owned countless dogs and cats over the years and loved to watch and feed the wildlife – birds, squirrels, and the occasional raccoon and deer – outside her family room windows. Carol’s devotion to animals eventually led her to become a long-time volunteer at the Toledo Humane Society. Her favorite assignments were snuggling with cats and kittens in the Cat Room and taking both dogs and cats to the TV station WTOL, who ran weekly features on animals available for adoption. Carol also enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers in the summer, family trips to Leland, Michigan, going to Broadway shows at the Stranahan and long lunches with her close friends.

Carol was by far the most optimistic and upbeat person you would ever meet. She was always happy, constantly smiling and had a big, infectious laugh. She was her children’s biggest fan and loved her grandsons with all her heart.

Carol is survived by her children, Scott (Jenny) Bruns and Christy (Rick) Diegel; her grandsons Jake, Craig, Adam and Grant; her sister Nancy (Larry) Seeburger; her brother-in- law Carl Bruns and many nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Craig; parents Bob and Shirley; brother Scott Sarvis, sister Linda Roth, and sister-in-law Shirley Bruns.

Visitation for Carol will be on Sunday, January 12, 2025, from 2:00-7:00 at Maison Dardenne Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, in Maumee. The funeral will be held at the funeral home on Monday, January 13, 2025 at 11:00 a.m., where visitors will also be welcome at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be immediately following the service at Toledo Memorial Park in Sylvania.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Toledo Area Humane Society in Carol’s name. The family would like to thank the staff at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their care, kindness and support during Carol’s final days.
