Carl E. Streib of Altoona, Florida, passed away on April 12, 2009, at the age of 93 at Waterman Hospital in Traveres, Florida. He was born in Crawford County, Ohio on July 1, 1915 and moved to Toledo with his parents in 1928. After graduating from Libbey High School, he worked as a butcher for the A & P Company. In 1941 he enlisted in the army and was stationed in the India-Burma theater during WWII where he was company clerk for a MASH unit. When he returned home from the war, he married Harriet Wendt on June 23, 1945 and began working for Libbey-Owens-Ford East Broadway plant retiring in 1977. Carl married second wife Dorothy Greenwalt Streib on March 17, 1979. He and Dorothy moved to Florida in the mid 1980s, and he spent his last years as a resident of Lakeview Terrace Retirement Community in Altoona, Florida. Carl was a life long Lutheran and an active member of Peace Lutheran Church in Toledo serving as church treasurer and congregation president. He was also active in the Arlington Elementary School Parents Association and served for many years as the schools Boy Scout leader. He loved to fish and was an avid gardener, photographer, reader, and Civil War buff. He and wife Dorothy enjoyed many great trips both in the US and in Europe. Carl was a deeply religious man who was blessed with a long, healthy life. He was a loyal husband, loving father and grandfather, and a proud Army veteran. His caring heart and generous nature will be greatly missed. Carl is predeceased by parents Edna Loyer and William Streib, wife Harriet Wendt Streib, sister Doris Kyer, great-granddaughter Lydia Grace Hatzidakis, and step-daughter and step-granddaughter Judy and Miriam Epstein. He is survived by wife Dorothy, daughter Karen Streib Hamilton, granddaughters Kristen Jason Hatzidakis and Stephanie Hamilton, great grandchildren Melia, Sophie, and Nick Hatzidakis, son-in-law Roger Hamilton, and step-daughters Marcia Gene King and Lynda Bob Wolfe. Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 17th from 5-8 pm at Walker Funeral Home at 5155 W. Sylvania Avenue in Toledo. Funeral service will be held at Walker on Saturday, April 18th at 11:00 am followed by interment at Ottawa Hills Cemetery.
