Carl F. Schober, of Toledo, passed away August 1, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Carl was born June 9, 1944 to Frederick and Grace (Bitter) Schober. He graduated from Lake High School in Millbury and Bowling Green State University where he earned an M.S. in Chemistry. Upon graduation he was commissioned into the U.S. Army and served in the Signal Corps during the Vietnam War. Carl had a fulfilling career spanning five decades as a surveyor for the Rudolph/Libbe and A.A. Boos & Sons construction companies. He worked on multiple landmark projects in the Toledo area including the Gatekeeper ride at Cedar Point. He was an active member of Olivet Lutheran Church, serving at various times on church council and singing in the choir and the praise band. He played tuba for the Genoa American Legion Band and was a member of the Professional Surveyors of Ohio. Carl is survived by his wife of 36 years, Marlene; their two children, Carla (Robert Herman) and Hans; his sisters, Rita, Nancy (Jack) Rapelje, Irma (Daniel) Byrnes; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, colleagues, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Calling hours will be from 3-8 p.m., Thursday, August 7 in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.), Toledo. The funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 8 at Olivet Lutheran Church, 5840 Monroe St., Sylvania. Graveside services and military honors will take place at Lake Township Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. The family requests that any donations be made to Olivet Lutheran Church or to the Genoa American Legion Band, c/o Charlie Brewster, 904 Hickory Street, Perrysburg, OH 43551.
