Carl Ernest Kegerreis, age 86, passed away at home on April 14, 2026. He was born on November 2, 1939, in Knightstown, Indiana, to Ernest and Frances (Grace) Kegerreis. Carl proudly served his country after being drafted into the United States Army in 1961. He later dedicated much of his professional life to law enforcement and public service. In 1967, he joined the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, which later became CSX Railroad, where he worked for 32 years and 9 months as part of the railroad police. He also served four years in federal service and held the position of Chief of Police from 1976 to 1984.
Committed to lifelong learning, Carl studied at Manchester University and Ball State University. Outside of his career, he volunteered at the local library and generously supported several cancer foundations.
Carl was married for 58 years to his beloved wife, Sandy, until her passing in 2021. He leaves behind his daughter, Carla (Kegerreis) Berryman; his son, Robert J. Kegerreis; and five grandchildren, Logan and Gunner Berryman, Ashley Trotter, Megan Pallas, and Joshua Kegerreis. He was preceded in death by daughter, Robin (Kegerreis) Trotter.
Private burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery.
