Carl Edward Happ

Carl Edward Happ, 80, of Toledo, OH passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026 while his loving wife of 58 years held his hand. Carl was a proud son of northwest Ohio having been born in Toledo on September 2, 1945. Raised from an early age with a tireless work ethic by his parents, Ed and Elsie, Carl started a highly successful career in business by washing trucks for his father's business, Toledo Tallow. He also built the foundation of his people skills by successfully administering his neighborhood's paper route.

A great conversationalist and self-proclaimed jokester, Carl found time in his early years for many friends, from his time at Woodward High School (Class of 1963), playing basketball at the Friendly Center, and in many mischievous adventures up in "the Point."

Carl continued his schooling at the University of Toledo, where he met Sue (Yarder) on a blind date, kicking off a wonderful life together. He continued his "mischievous adventures" as a member of the Ohio Eta chapter of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity and also continued to hone his business skills as a graduate of the business school in 1967.

Serving six years in the Air National Guard, Carl further distinguished himself as a leader, rising to the rank of staff sergeant and serving as dorm chief.

Married in 1968, Carl and Sue welcomed a daughter (Jodi) in 1969 and a son (Jamie) in 1972. Carl was highly focused on his family and enjoyed attending sporting and dance events, travelling to places far and wide and offering sage advice.

Professionally, Carl's business success continued with stints at Burroghs and Xerox where he sold adding machines and copiers, acting also as sales manager while at Xerox. Carl joined Merrill Lynch in 1981 enjoying a 19 year career as a financial advisor, the capstone of his business success. He was a trusted voice, smart investor and effective planner for his many clients.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Ed Happ and Elizabeth Happ (Kontak) as well as his daughter, Jodi Frysinger. He is survived by his wife, Sue (Yarder), son, Jamie (Christine), son-in-law, Rod Frysinger, sister, Barb Hughes and four very special grandchildren, Bradley Freeman (Emma), Rachel Frysinger, Allison Happ and Anna Happ.

The family will be receiving friends at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. Toledo on Monday, July 6, 2026, from 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm. A prayer vigil will be held at Walker on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 11:00 am, followed by burial at Resurrection Cemetery.

Carl's positive influence on many people will be felt forever and watching the Rockets and the Browns will never be the same without him. Donations can be made in Carl's honor to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
