Carl E. Cady

June 20, 1937 — December 9, 2015

Tony Cady of Maumee, OH passed away peacefully on December 9, 2015 surrounded by loving family and friends. He was born on June 20, 1937 to John (Fred) and June (Deiners) Cady in Toledo, and was blessed with four siblings. Tony is an alumnus of Whitmer High School class of 1954 and the University of Toledo with a degree in Civil Engineering. Tony was a proud member of the Ohio National Guard for six years, where he earned his nickname, 'Tony the Tiger'. The title was given to him when he knocked out the 'Bronx Bully' after he challenged Tony in a boxing match in front of the rest of their platoon. He married his loving wife, Phyllis Jean Mann on August 13, 1960 and was blessed with three sons; Jeff, Ron and Terry. He was employed as a Civil Engineer for the state of Ohio for over 30 years and worked at Proudfoot Associates upon retiring from the state. One of his proudest accomplishments as an engineer was his design of the Eckel Junction Drainage Project in Perrysburg. Tony was an avid runner, competing in high school and continued to run throughout the rest of his life. Many times he jogged from his home in Maumee to his workplace (the Ohio Department of Transportation) in Bowling Green. One of Tony's favorite pastimes was spending weekends watching boxing matches on t.v. with his sons. He loved to fish and spent much of his spare time at his place on Mudd Lake. He also enjoyed cooking and hosted 'fish frys' featuring his latest catch with his three grandchildren, who were the light of his life. No 'fish fry' would be complete without Frisch's tartar sauce, which he always went to pick up for his grandkids. Tony is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis Jean; sons Ron (Christine Jordan Cady) and Terry; three grandchildren, Jordan, Jacob and Joel; brother Tim Cady (Janice) and half-sister Robin Zimmerman; Mary Ann Root; and his beloved Dachshund, Casey. Tony was preceded in death by his mother June Deiners-Papenfus; stepfather Kenneth “Pappy” Papenfus; father John (Fred) Cady; twin brother Thomas Cady; brother Jan David and sister Jerrilyn (Cady) Bridge; son Jeff Allen Cady; and Tom Root; and beloved Dachshunds, Katie and Brittany. Services will be held from 10 am-1 pm at Calvary Bible Chapel, 3740 W. Alexis Road, Toledo, OH on Saturday December 12, 2015. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northwest Ohio. We all look forward to seeing you at your big 'fish fry' in the sky one day. Rest easy, Tiger.
