Candace Sue Gale (nee Knapp), age 67, of Port Clinton, passed away, January 25, 2017, from complications due to metastatic breast cancer. Candy graduated as valedictorian from Northeastern High School in Springfield, Ohio. She obtained a bachelor of science in elementary education from Miami University and a master’s in education from Bowling Green State University. She taught in the Port Clinton City School District for almost 38 years, including 22 years in first grade. Candy loved children and was a dedicated teacher. Above all, she was a devoted mother and grandmother and she especially loved babysitting her granddaughter in Chicago over the last 7 years. Candy also enjoyed singing in her church choir, traveling with friends and family, and participating in a local study club. She will be missed, everyday. She is survived by her Husband of 46 years, Rodney Gale, Daughter: Bethany (Gary Stark) of Chicago, Son: Erick (Dennis Murphy) of Columbus and Granddaughter: Sadie Stark. Candy was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Helen Knapp, and many loving aunts and uncles. Calling hours will be held from 2-6pm, Saturday, January 28, 2017 at the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, 216 Washington St., Port Clinton, OH 43452. Funeral service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 135 Adams St., Port Clinton, at 2:00pm, Sunday, January 29, 2017. Interment will be in Catawba Island Cemetery. The family suggests memorial donations be given to the choir at Trinity United Methodist Church or to the American Cancer Society.
