Calvin Gahn

Calvin H. Gahn, 82, of Fremont, OH died Friday, January 15, 2010 at Lutheran Village at Wolf Creek, Holland, OH. He was born on April 28, 1927 to Homer David Myrtle May Gahn. He attended Glasser School, and received a diploma from Fremont High School though not with his class because he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard prior to the ceremony in 1945. After the service, Calvin returned to Fremont where he married Norma Jean Zilles on October 3, 1947. They had three children, Sandra Lee of Dallas, GA; John David of Vancouver, BC and Thomas Matthew of Whitehouse, OH. After a brief period working for Ohio Edison, he moved his family to Port Clinton to work at the Matthews Boat Co. Later he joined the Northern Ohio Telephone Co. as a lineman. Calvin remained with the utility company; he retired as a construction supervisor to build his own house along the Portage River in Elmore, OH. He and his wife Norma Jean were life-long Lutherans and spent many hours in service to others within the church and community. He enjoyed wood working, fishing and traveling. Calvin is survived by his niece Jeannie Fischer Kersteller, daughter: Sandy, son-in-law: Earl, son: John and wife Sandra, son: Tom and wife Teresa, 7 grandchildren: Jason, Joel, Matthew, Acacia, Katelyn, Steven and Hannah, 4 great grandchildren: Olivia, Ella, Lacey and Micah. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and sister: Orlena Gahn Fischer. Visitation will be on Monday, January 18, 2010 from 2-8 p.m., with family present from 2-4 6-8 p.m., at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, Oak Harbor. Memorial services will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at Grace Lutheran Church, Fremont, OH with Pastor James Avers officiating. Interment will be in Lindsey Cemetery, Lindsey, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Lutheran Social Services, Parkinsons Foundation or Independent Telecommunications Pioneer Association.
