Burnell O. Brandeberry

July 3, 1926 — January 25, 2013

Burnell O. Brandeberry, 86, of Toledo, OH answered the Lords call on January 25, 2013 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. He was born to Chester O. and Hazel M. Durbin Brandeberry on July 3, 1926 in Hudson, MI. He attended schools in Waldron, MI, Huntington, IN, and Chesterfield Twp., OH graduating from Chesterfield in 1945. Burnell received his Bachelors Degree in Education from Huntington College in 1950 and a Masters Degree in Education Administration from Bowling Green State University in 1959. He taught school in Dalton City, IL, Franklin Twp., OH, Fulton Co., OH, Chesterfield High School where he was also principal, and Washington Local Schools in Lucas Co., Ohio where he was an elementary school principal. Burnell enlisted in the US Army Air Corp on June 29, 1944 at the age of 17 and became a tail gunner on a B-29 airplane in WWII. After receiving his discharge in September on 1946, he entered Huntington College. He was a trustee of whats now Huntington College University from 1972-1984. In 1978, he joined Gideons International. He was an active member of Harvest Lane United Baptist Church, Toledo for 38 years and has been a member of Westgate Chapel, Toledo for 16 years where he served as Deacon 6 years. Burnell was a member of the American Legion and of the Sons of the American Revolution. His hobbies included traveling in the airstream with the Wally Byam Caravan Club and also caring for his many citrus trees on his mobile home lot in San Juan, TX for 23 winters. Burnell was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Carrol Carl Keefer. He is survived by his loving, caring wife of 67 years, Ardith; daughters, Kathy Harold Thomas, and Karen Brandeberry Anthony McClain; sons, Gary, and Gene Yvonne; grandchildren, Brian Kimberly Thomas, Brad Sheila Thomas, Sarah Matthew Hemker, Jacob, Grace, and Isaiah Brandeberry; step-grandson, Marc Emily McClain; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Kevin, Katie and Joshua Thomas; Kayley, Hannah and Jared Thomas; and Jake, Nate and Kate Hemker; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their appreciation to Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the excellent care they provided.
