Bruce T. Jacobson

Bruce Jacobson, age 87, passed away July 3, 2022, in Orlando, Florida. Bruce was a proud graduate of The University of Michigan, where he obtained his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees. He completed post-graduate courses in Music, along with several post-graduate courses at Military Schools.  He joined the United States Army in 1957 and retired from the Army Reserves as a Colonel in 1993.

Bruce had a passion for education and an extensive career as a professor and instructor for numerous schools and universities. He served as Director of Music Education and Director of Fine Arts at Toledo Public Schools for 30 years. During his tenure, Bruce was able to successfully integrate Art and Music departments into one Fine Arts Department at Toledo Public Schools. He touched the lives of many and paved the way for music education in Toledo.

Bruce was proud to serve many organizations in Toledo. He served on the Board of Directors for The Toledo Symphony, General Chairman of the ToledoFest 1979 and 1980 – Labor Day celebrations – attracting 100,000 people to Downtown Toledo, President, Ohio Alliance for Arts Education (affiliated with the Kennedy Center), and Board of Trustees for The Toledo Opera Association and the Arts Commission of Greater Toledo.

Born February 20, 1935, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Harold K. and Maxine (Miller) Jacobson, he married Georgia (Leonard) Jacobson and the two recently celebrated 54 years of marriage.

In addition to his wife, those left to cherish his memory include a son, Tory Jacobson (Tammy); daughter, Bevin Jacobson; and grandchildren, Taylor, Brayden, Conner, and Beya Jacobson. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Jake “Harold” Jacobson.

Bruce will be privately laid to rest at Toledo Memorial Park. Family and friends are invited to visit on Saturday, July 16, 2022, in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave (west of Corey Rd.) from 10:00 a.m. until the time of memorial services at 11:00 a.m.
