It be is with profound sadness that the family of Bruce W. Boerst Sr. announce his unexpected, yet peaceful passing on June 6, 2021 at the age of 57 years in Maumee, Ohio. Bruce was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio to Lois (Knitt) and Wallace “Wally” Boerst. He was a proud 1981 graduate of E.L. Bowsher High School and spent the majority of his adult life raising his family in Maumee, Ohio where he worked and recently retired as an Operator for the City of Maumee, Department of Natural Resources. Throughout his life, Bruce candidly served his community in a variety of ways including, but not limited to the following: coaching Maumee Little League Baseball and previously serving as Commissioner; a Firefighter for the Maumee Fire Department in which Bruce was particularly proud of serving on the “Heavy Rescue Squad”; Maumee EMT First Responder; and regularly volunteering as a Son at American Legion Post #320 and Maumee Fraternal Order of Eagles. The memories of his life and love will forever be cherished by his five children (his “Best Buddies"): Chasity, Jeremy (Amanda), Bruce Jr. “BJ” (Sara), Meagan (Jersey) and Caleb; his 16 grandchildren; brothers, Michael (Lynda) and Timothy (Sherry); sisters, Kendra Pettit and Marsha; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving relatives and loyal friends. Without a doubt, Bruce was welcomed into Heaven with open arms by The Heavenly Father, his late mother and father, sister, Lisa and granddaughter, Mya. The simplest pleasures in life brought incredible joy to Bruce. He took delight in cooking, gardening and perfection for Bruce was an evening with family & friends, a campfire, and an ice-cold beer while listening to The Who. As an avid Buckeyes Football fan, during the Fall months, Bruce was glued to the games on Saturdays and could be heard cheering (or sobbing) for OSU from a mile away. While the above-mentioned pleasures brought him happiness, nothing lit up Bruce's life more than his children and grandchildren. When asked about their Dad, Bruce's children said “[w]e didn't endure life with Dad, we enjoyed life with Dad! He loved us unconditionally and was not only our Dad, but our protector, biggest fan and best friend also. We will surely miss his infectious smile and unwavering friendship.” Bruce was a man who deeply loved the Lord, his family, and his community. While the family will forever be broken-hearted that he left this Earth, they find peace knowing that he is with the Lord and all those who have previously passed and know he is watching over them. The family welcomes friends to gather at Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home (501 Conant St., Maumee, OH 43537) for a celebration of Bruce's life on June 11, 2021 10:00am - 12:00pm followed with a brief funeral service at 12:00pm. Dad: We love you. We love you more! We love you most!! We love you more-est Boerst!!! See ya later, pal.
