Boyd Paul Thompson of Toledo, OH, died Monday, January 11, 2010, at his home in Austin, Texas, where he had moved in 2009 to be near his niece, Mary Etnyre Watts. He is survived by an extended family of nieces and nephews who will greatly miss him warm and loving ways. Boyd was born in Toledo on July 26, 1924. He attended Whittier Grade School and DeVilbiss High School. Upon graduating he worked for the New York Central/Penn Central and Conrail lines for 42 years. He started as a block operator and then advanced to train dispatcher. Upon his retirement, he was the chief train dispatcher of Conrails main line from Elkhart, Indiana to Cleveland, Ohio. Boyd joined Barton Smith Lodge No. 613 in May of 1970 and received his 25-year pin in 1995. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite-Valley of Toledo, as well as the Zenobia Shrine, where he had served as the secretary of the Temple Guard Unit. Boyd was an avid sports fan of he Detroit Tigers and a season ticket hold of the University of Toledo men and womens basketball team for over 26 years. Boyd was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Marian Staler Thompson. Also preceding Boyds death were his father, Perle; mother, Ada; brothers, Devon, George, Gene, Cliff; twin brother, Brent and sisters, Mary Margaret and Vera. There will be a visitation at 10 a.m. at the Walker Funeral Home at 5155 Sylvania Avenue, on Saturday, January 16th, followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service.
