Boyd R. Montgomery

August 8, 1945 — April 15, 2026

A lifelong commitment to service defined his life, as he generously gave his time and energy to countless community organizations. He was born in Douglas, Arizona, where his father served as a flight instructor on B-25 aircraft during World War II. Following the war, his family returned to Mansfield, Ohio, before settling in Sylvania, where he formed the roots of a life devoted to community service.

A graduate of Adrian College, he began his career in education, teaching for three years while also contributing to the family insurance business. He ultimately dedicated 56 years to that profession as an independent insurance agent, earning the trust of generations of clients through his integrity, care, and commitment to securing the best protection for their needs.

In 1968, he married his high school sweetheart, Sandi, beginning a loving partnership for fifty-six years. Together, they built a wonderful life in Sylvania and raised two children who carry forward his values and spirit.

Their son, Boyd II, and his wife Kimberly were blessed with three children-Kayleigh (Noah) Lucas, Ashlynn Montgomery, and Zachary Montgomery-and thee great-grandchildren, Georgia, Abner and Jethro Lucas. Boyd made a lasting impact through his work developing and managing Pacesetter Park for 16 years before continuing his career with The Toro Company and later serving as General Manager of MRL in Billings, Montana.

Their daughter, Lisa, and her husband Derek George were blessed with three children-Pierce, Kennedy, and Reese-in Austin, Texas, where Lisa established a distinguished career as an attorney in the energy trade industry.

His dedication to community service began in 1970 with the Toledo Jaycees, where he rose to serve as President. Over the years, he provided leadership and vision to numerous organizations, often serving as chairman. His contributions left a lasting mark on the Sylvania community, including helping to restart the Sylvania Historical Society, supporting the return of fireworks at Centennial Terrace, and playing a key role in establishing both the Sister City partnership with Woodstock, Ontario, Canada, and the Sylvania Area Joint Recreation District (SAJRD).

He faced life's challenges with extraordinary strength and resilience, courageously battling three different cancers. Through it all, he remained unwaveringly optimistic, earning the affectionate nickname "Mr. Positive" from those who knew and loved him.

His legacy is one of service, leadership, and enduring positivity-a life well lived and deeply appreciated by family, friends, and the community he so faithfully served.
