Bonnie Lee Welniak

Bonnie Lee Welniak (Sackrider) 77 of Westfield, Indiana formerly from Rossford, Ohio. Passed away peacefully early in the am on April 11, 2024 with her daughter by her side. After a brief battle with breast cancer.

Bonnie was born on August 2, 1946 in Toledo, Ohio to Leonard and Leona Sackrider. She attended St. Charles elementary school and Central Catholic high school. She then went on to marry her high school sweetheart James Welniak on April 8, 1967.

Bonnie started her career working as a telephone operator for Ohio Bell where she stayed until the birth of her first child. After 2 children she decided to further her education by attending nursing school at Owen’s Community College where she earned her RN. Shortly after she began working at Parkview Hospital where she remained for 20 years working as a pediatric nurse. Meanwhile she earned her Master’s degree from the Medical College of Ohio. She finished her nursing career teaching nursing to students at Monroe County Community College where she remained until she retired in 2012 to care for her ailing husband.

After Jim’s passing she moved to Westfield, Indiana to be with her daughter and granddaughters where she enjoyed many activities including book clubs, gardening clubs, bingo, mahjong, attending musicals and performances and her most favorite past time traveling! Bonnie loved to travel near and far by air, by bus, by boat; she just loved to travel.

Bonnie leaves behind her children Amy (Brian) Houser and James Welniak; granddaughters Anna (Noah) Wagner, Emma, Megan & Mya Houser; and her sister Joanne Holmes.

She was preceded in death by her husband James, her parents and her younger brother John Sackrider.

Visitation for Bonnie will be Sunday, April 14, 2024 from 2-6 p.m. at the Sujkowski-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 830 Lime City Rd., Rossford, OH. A Funeral Mass for Bonnie will be celebrated 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 15, 2024 at All Saints Catholic Church, 628 Lime City Rd., Rossford, OH with additional visitation one hour prior to the services from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow in Ft. Meigs Union Cemetery, Perrysburg, OH. Memorial contributions in memory of Bonnie can be given to Paradigm Health Hospice.
