Bonnie Gibson

July 31, 1925 — May 2, 2019

Bonnie, who grew up on a farm, loved gardening and was a fearless do-it-yourselfer when it came to home improvements. In 1943, she married Harold Gibson and moved to Santa Barbara, CA where she spent a short time while Harold was in boot camp for the U.S. Army. Harold was deployed to Japan during WWII. Shortly after, she returned to Ohio, and she worked at the Auto-Lite plant on airplane wings and later worked at Champion Spark Plug. Once Bonnie started her family, she worked out of her home as a dressmaker. In 1968, she worked in alterations at the Reynolds Village Shop and later at the Geralda Pheatt dress shop. She then started her own monogramming business, All-Star Stitch, in 1980, which she operated until her retirement in 2009 at the age of 84. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed making matching dresses for all five of her daughters for Christmas and Easter during their younger years. As a single parent of five adolescent daughters, she worked long and hard hours to support her family while never thinking about herself. There was never much, but they never lacked anything. For weeks before Christmas, she would spend many hours in her sewing room making gifts for everyone to put under the Christmas tree. Bonnie also loved to bake and often sent baked goods to her neighbors who always watched out for her. She was very involved in the Women’s Auxiliary Group for the Northwest Ohio 1/4 Midget Race Club and also supported her daughters and made the entire family matching race uniforms. She was very involved in her church and volunteered at the local food bank as well. She loved her family, and particularly all of her grandchildren. She played softball with her daughters on the Athletic Supply softball team in the mid-’70s and loved watching baseball. She was an avid Mud Hens and Tigers fan. When she was a young woman, she loved to go to downtown Toledo with her work friends to watch Big Time Wrestling. Friends will be received on Monday, May 6, 2019 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Neville Funeral Home, 7438 Airport Highway, Holland, OH 43528 (419-865-8879).
