Bonnie Fontana passed away at home on February 3, 2026, with her husband, Peter, by her side. Born to Jack and Wanda (Doran) Walker, Bonnie grew up in Bakersfield, California, and graduated from South High School in 1969.She married and moved to Port Clinton, Ohio later welcoming her two children, Brooke and Kyle Kilmer.
Years later while single, Bonnie met the love of her life, Peter Fontana. That night they danced the night away, they married in 1988 beginning 39 years of love, laughter, and family. Bonnie worked in data entry at Davis-Besse until a series of layoffs opened the door for a new chapter. She and Peter moved to Findlay, where she held several jobs, though her favorite by far was working at a veterinarian clinic. Her lifelong love of animals was unmistakable. She cared for countless pets over the years, and she held a special fondness for armadillos.
After retiring in 2013, Bonnie embraced the chance to spend more time golfing, dancing, traveling, and being a grandmother. Her vacations took her to Florida, Oregon, Jamaica, Mexico, New Orleans, and to visit family in California and Texas, though Arizona remained her favorite destination. At home, she could often be found reading a romance or mystery novel or cooking a delicious meal. Deeply devoted to her family, she lovingly cared for her mother, Wanda, during her final years.
Bonnie is survived by her husband, Peter Fontana; her children, Brooke (Toby Sulkes) Kilmer, Kyle (Cheryl) Kilmer, Gianni Fontana, and Claudia Fontana; her grandchildren, Gianna, Alexis, Mariella, Sophia, Ellena, Jackson, Finn, and Walker; and her sister, Mary Gayman. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Gary Hatley and Burton Walker.
A breast cancer survivor, Bonnie's strength, resilience, and love of family were gifts to all who knew her. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in her name to the Ottawa County Humane Society. Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory has the honor of assisting the family with arrangements.
