Bonnalyn Jean Legg

Bonnalyn (Bonnie) J. Legg, 82, of Port Clinton, Ohio peacefully passed away on August 5, 2026. She was born in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania on December 12, 1943 to the late Colin and Lillian (Schindler) Campbell. Bonnie is also preceded in death by her sister, Jann (Campbell) Phelps, and grand-niece, Ashley Earhart. Bonnie found joy in learning, traveling, creating and serving others.

A 1961 graduate of Edgewood High School in Edgewood, Pennsylvania, Bonnie continued her education at Shippensburg State College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. She later earned her master's degree from Villanova University, with studies in mathematics, physics, general science, and secondary educational administration. She began as a principal at Overbrook School for the Blind in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and later shared her love of learning as a seventh and eighth-grade mathematics teacher at Port Clinton Junior High School.

Outside of her career, Bonnie was happiest when she was busy creating, learning, and exploring. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, cross-stitch, card making, reading, and exercising. She also had a wonderful love of travel, enjoying adventures throughout the country and abroad. Her many hobbies and travels brought her not only personal enjoyment but also wonderful friendships and treasured memories. She especially cherished the friends she made through her quilting, book, and TOPS clubs.

Bonnie had a generous heart and believed in giving her time to others. She was a dedicated volunteer at Ida Rupp Public Library in Port Clinton, Ohio as well as the American Red Cross.

Bonnalyn is survived by her brother-in-law, Steve Phelps of Port Clinton; nieces Amy (Wayne) Earhart of Hilliard, Ohio, and Stacey Phelps of Shaker Heights, Ohio; grand-nephew Evan Earhart and grand-niece Courtney Earhart. She is also survived by her first cousin, John (Sally) Campbell, and her second cousins, Karen (Anthony) Cangelose and family and Kathy (Keith) Howery and family, all of whom reside in Missouri.
