Blanche A Silcox

February 19, 1918 — October 17, 2012

Blanche B. Silcox was born on February 19, 1918 in Lanesboro, Minnesota to Alfred and Berta Bothun. She passed peacefully on October 17, 2012 in Phoenix, Arizona. Blanche’s mother died when she was three years old and was raised by her maternal grandparents in Clarks Grove, Minnesota. Her formal education ended when her grandparents passed during her sophomore year in high school but there are few that are as intelligent, well read, and articulate as she. Blanche had a voracious appetite for books and on many occasions, her family, friends and contemporaries were astounded at her comprehensive knowledge of history, politics, theology and social dynamics. Blanche married Charles B. Silcox in 1940 and they had three children; David, Stephen and Timothy. She and her family lived for many years in southern Minnesota; Fairmont, Worthington and eventually New Ulm, where her sons were raised and attended high school. Her family and children were the epicenter of her life and she enjoyed watching football, basketball and baseball games, where her sons excelled. In 1970, she and her husband moved to Walbridge, Ohio, where Charles worked for the CSX Railway Corporation. After Charles’ death, she moved to Phoenix and lived for 18 years at her home on Bethany Home Road in central Phoenix. Blanche was a devout Lutheran, a deacon in the church and a Sunday school teacher. She will be remembered as a faithful and devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, and her son, Timothy (Kathy). She is survived by sons Dave (Kathy) and Steve (Nancy); grandchildren, Greg (Denise), Cindy Holl (Craig) and Justin; great-grandchildren, Andy and Kaitlin Silcox and Cameron and Catherine Holl. Visitation will be at the Witzler Shank Funeral Home at 701 N Main Street, Walbridge, Ohio 43465 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2012. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 26, 2012 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 1930 Bradner Road, Northwood Ohio, 43619, followed by interment at the Lake Township Cemetery. A celebration of Blanche’s life will be held at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 1212 East Glendale Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Our Saviors Lutheran Church and Hospice of the Valley, http://wwwhov.org/, both in Phoenix.
