Blanche D. Lavery

LAVERY Blanche Delphine Blanche D. Lavery, age 76, of Sylvania, passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at Sunset Village from complications of Parkinsons disease. The daughter of Lester and Christine Thomas, she was born in River Rouge, Michigan on June 22, 1932. Blanche attended Eastern Michigan and Michigan State Universities. She married John Lavery on June 13, 1953. They spent the next two years working for the U.S. Government in Washington, D.C. After raising their two daughters, Blanche returned to the work force with Unisys in Cincinnati, Ohio. Blanche followed John on his career path establishing homes and friendships in numerous cities, eventually settling in Sylvania, Ohio in 2002. She was an avid ballroom dancer for over 35 years and was a member of the dance club, the Dancetonians. European travel was one of Blanches passions, but spending time with her grandchildren was the great joy of her life. In recent years Blanche became a dedicated advocate for the local Parkinsons support group. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Alice J. Lavery. In addition to her loving husband of 55 years, John, she is survived by her daughter, Jane Steve Wurth and their children, Robert and Stephanie of Sylvania, Ohio. Also surviving are granddaughters, Emily and Kelsey Kramp, of Cincinnati, Ohio; lifelong friends, Zora Vermette and Helen Montroy of Trenton, Michigan. The family would like to express their deepest thanks to Dr. Lawrence Elmer and his staff at the Department of Neurology at UTMC for the love and compassion Blanche received while in their care. The family will receive friends at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave., west of Corey Rd. on Sunday from noon to 1 p.m. with a Memorial Service at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the University of Toledo Medical Center Parkinsons Disease and Movement Disorders Program, Fund No. 275, 2801 W.
