Beverly B. Seeman, 90, passed away on August 13, 2017 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. Born in Cleveland, OH, she moved with her family to rural Wood County at a young age. Bev valued her longstanding friendship with a group of five other women, all graduates of Haskins High School, “the Six-Pack,” whose adventures together endured for over 70 years. Bev attended BGSU and met her future husband, Richard H. Seeman, when they both worked at the former Glass Fibers plant in Waterville. Dick Seeman died in June, 1984 and Bev remained a co-owner of the family business, Erie Tool and Supply Co. with her son until 2015. Together Dick and Bev built homes, first in Corey Woods and then in Monclova Township, seeking settings in the natural world that embodied their love of nature. They spent many good times in Cadillac, Michigan, with friends and family at their cabin and in Dillon, Colorado. With Dick’s encouragement she overcame her trepidation and alpine and nordic skiing became important activities with family and friends. Later, Bev moved back to Wood County where she relished being a Perrysburg resident for the last 32 years. Bev was a dedicated gardener, a 50-year member of the Corey Woods Garden Club, and her love of plants persisted throughout her life. As recently as June, her entries in the 2017 Garden Club of Ohio District Convention won a blue ribbon and the Growers’ Choice Award. A world traveler, first with her husband and children, then with myriad like-minded friends, Bev eagerly explored new places and cultures. Highlights she noted were a hot air balloon ride over the Kenyan savanna and climbing into the rain forest tree canopy to bird-watch in Ecuador. Bev was even more passionate about providing opportunities to every person in areas of equal rights, education, farmland preservation, and advocating for clean water and air. She was a dedicated member of Perrysburg’s League of Women Voters, the Way Public Library Board and the New Century Club. A longtime member of Hope Lutheran Church in Toledo, she served on church council and sang in the choir. Her support of the Toledo Symphony, the Toledo Museum of Art and public radio and television reflected her interests in the arts. Bev was an adored mother and grandmother, “Mutti,” to her daughter Rebecca and her husband, David Wood, and their children, Mariel and Rachel Wood, and to her son Robert and his wife, Karin Jacobson, and their children, Charlie and Elizabeth Seeman. Her brother, Roger Bengtson, of Littleton, Colorado also survives, as do her sisters-in-law, Virginia Putnam and Sally Bengtson, as well as many nieces and nephews. Burial will be private. A memorial celebration of Beverly’s life will take place at the Carranor Hunt and Polo Club, 502 E. Second Street, Perrysburg, on Sunday, September 10th at noon. Contributions in Bev’s memory are suggested to the Black Swamp Conservancy, the Perrysburg League of Women Voters, and the Way Public Library or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
