Beverly Joan Barchick, age 83, passed away at home with her loving family by her side. She was the daughter of Edith (Wening) and Melvin Fahrer. She married Richard “Dick” Barchick in 1954 and throughout their 58 years together they built a wonderful life and raised a beautiful family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter-in-law Kathy. Joan was a graduate of Whitmer High School and worked for a time at AO Smith and retired as a secretary from The Toledo-Lucas County Health Department Visiting Nurse Services. Most of her life she devoted to her husband, family, and being a wonderful mother, grandmother and homemaker. She was a lifelong Catholic and a parishioner at Little Flower Catholic Church. She is survived by her sister Jeanne Johnson; children, David, Patty (Allan) Schissler, Mike (Jan), Chuck (Sue), and Joe (Rochelle); grandchildren, Lacey (Ronny) Schissler-Lambotte, Christopher (Cait) Schissler, Katelyn (Greg) Gomach, Michael (Angie), Brian (Christine), Becky (fiancée Zac), Stephen (fiancée Christine), Matthew, Sarah (Joe) Seeman, Jennifer (fiancée Jimmy), Daniel, Anne E and Oscar Barchick; and great grandchildren, Eleanor and Corrine Lambotte, Molly, Xander, Tommy, Ellie and Charlie Barchick and Lucy Gomach. She loved spending time at the family home on Devil’s Lake and in earlier year’s family vacations to Curtis, MI in the Upper Peninsula. The family always looked forward to mom’s baked beans, salmon patties, spaghetti dinners and as the family grew, the twelve dozen cinnamon rolls she made every Christmas. Her family will deeply miss her and the wonderful love and unconditional support she gave to all of us. Mom and Dad believed strongly in the value of Catholic education. She continued the philanthropy she and her husband started with St. Francis High School many years ago. This included donating a new car to be raffled every year at an SFS football game. As a result, many young men were able to realize the benefit of a Catholic education. Those who wish to honor Joan’s memory are asked to consider The Barchick Family Scholarship Fund at St. Francis DeSales High School, 2323 Bancroft St., Toledo OH 43607 or a charity of the donor’s choice. At her request, there will be no visitation and funeral services will be private for the family.
