Betty Jean Weilant, 73, passed away on Monday, November 24, 2025, at Mercy Hospital in Perrysburg, Ohio. Born on March 31, 1952, in Findlay, Ohio, Betty was the daughter of Clement and Margaret (Street) Challen.
Betty graduated from McComb High School in 1970 and earned her Associate’s Degree from Stautzenberger College. Betty married Ralph Weilant, on November 14, 1992, and together they shared 33 wonderful years.
Early on, she worked for The State of Ohio, Department of Natural Resources. Betty was then employed by Abitibi/ABTco in Toledo from 1984 to 2002. She later finished her career at Marsha’s Homemade Buckeyes, retiring in 2016.
Her lifelong love for animals inspired her to become a Certified Veterinary Technician in 2003. Betty also volunteered her time and talents to Nature’s Nursery and the Wood County Humane Society, where she was passionate about helping animals in need.
Betty was an avid reader and a gifted quilter who loved sewing and crafting. She will be remembered for her unique sense of humor, keen wit and strong work ethic. Everyone loved her beautifully elaborate holiday decorations. Betty was a passionate fan of the Cleveland Guardians (Indians) and the Browns. Above all, Betty will be remembered for her love of her cats.
Betty is survived by her husband, Ralph; her sons, Chris Pugh, Shaun (Kortney) Pugh and grandchildren Axl, Arya, and Archer Pugh; siblings, Shirley Bates and James (Tammy) Challen. Nieces and Nephews: Lisa Willson, Mike Challen, Julie Schimmoeller, Terri Sutton, Corey Eckel, Ryan Eckel, Eric Challen and Kirk Challen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Darrel (Eileen) Challen and Dennis (Anna) Challen; sister Susan Eckel, her brother-in-law, Robert Bates, nephews, Jeffry Bates and Nicholaus Challen and nieces Lana Challen and Jodi Challen.
Friends and family will be received on Monday, December 1, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary Street, Perrysburg, where funeral services will begin at noon. Burial will follow at McComb Union Cemetery.
