Betty Ann Thompson, age 82, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2026.
Betty was born on December 25, 1943, in Washington, Iowa, to David and Bernice (Brown) Erwin. She graduated from Washington High School in Washington, Iowa, in 1962 before attending Pella College in Pella, Iowa, where she studied general arts. While working as an accountant at Hubill in Davenport, Iowa, she met the love of her life, Keith Thompson. The two were married on April 4, 1970, in Washington, Iowa. Together they shared 56 wonderful years of marriage and eventually made their home in Sylvania, Ohio, where they lovingly raised their three children, Shawna, Scott, and Ann.
Family was the center of Betty's life. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and loyal friend whose greatest joy came from caring for those around her. She had a remarkable gift for making people feel welcomed and loved, whether through a warm conversation, a kind gesture, or a meal shared around her table. Betty was an exceptional cook and baker, and her homemade cinnamon rolls became a treasured favorite among family and friends. She also enjoyed sewing and needlework, where she found happiness in creating things for those she loved.
Betty dedicated much of her professional life to helping others as a relocation coordinator, assisting individuals and families moving to the Toledo area through her work with RAI. Her welcoming personality and genuine care for others made her especially well-suited for this work. She also served as Area Manager of the New Neighbors League, where she helped newcomers become acquainted with the Toledo community and made them feel at home from the moment they arrived.
A woman of deep and abiding faith, Betty was a devoted member of Resurrection Lutheran Church. She was actively involved in the life of the congregation, especially through its music ministry, and found great joy in serving alongside her church family. She served her church community in several roles, including organist, choir director, taking care of shut-ins, and serving church meals. Her kindness, generosity, unwavering faith, and friendly spirit touched countless lives and will be remembered by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Bernice Erwin.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Keith Thompson; her children, Shawna (Mike) Shadoan, Scott (Nancy) Thompson, and Ann Thompson; her grandchildren, Katie Shadoan, Jessica Thompson, Tyler Shadoan, Jennifer Thompson, Lily Mulinix, and Kellan McGuire; along with additional family members and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
A visitation will be held on Monday, July 20, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Resurrection Lutheran Church. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Betty will be laid to rest at Toledo Memorial Park privately following the funeral service.
