Betty Louise (Younker) Sondergeld, 86, of Genoa, Ohio, passed onward to be with Jesus on Monday, May 22, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 14, 1930, to Alonzo and Barbara (Bickford) Younker. She was the youngest of four children. Betty graduated from Genoa High School, May 6, 1949, where she loved to play her clarinet in the band and be with friends. On June 24, 1950, she married Gordon Sondergeld and was a dedicated and loving wife of 67 years. Betty was a faithful member of Genoa Trinity United Methodist Church for 76 years, making her the second oldest member. Her favorite reading is the 23 Psalm in the Bible, just like her mother. She was also an unfailing mother of six, grandmother of 16, great grandmother of 38 and great-great grandmother of one. Betty and Gordon led a full life, including starting the Nimroders Camping Club with their friends when the children were young, taking family vacations; and she always made time to play games with her children. Her children will fondly remember their mom making each of them feel important, especially on their birthdays. They will be forever grateful with being blessed to spend such a full life with their mother and will cherish every memory made with her. In their retirement she spent many years boating on Lake Erie with family and traveling to Florida, where they lived along the Gulf. Living by the water was always her favorite. Her grandchildren will recall with love the times that they stayed overnight in pairs, playing games in the summer and keeping Grandma up with shenanigans. The family always gathered at the lake house for fish frys and holiday parties. Betty was avid camper, boater, gardener and friend. She loved cheering for her Detroit Tigers on TV and playing with her cat Tess, fishing, completing cross-words and difficult jigsaw puzzles-many of those are framed to decorate their home. She loved to hum and sing as she cooked and baked. She always had a gentle smile on her beautiful face and her giggle was infectious. Betty will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Betty is survived by her loving husband, Gordon, daughter, Cynthia (Mike) Hinkle, son, Richard (Cym) Sondergeld, daughter, Geraldine (William) Welling, son, Gordon Sondergeld, Jr., daughter, Judith (Rick) Artiaga, her sister, Bernice Zimmerman, brother-in-law, Ray (Leona) Sondergeld, and sisters-in-law, Janet and Meta Sondergeld. She is preceded in death by her infant daughter, Theressa Mae Sondergeld, her parents, her brothers, Gene and Donald Younker, two infant great grandchildren, brothers-in-law, Glen and Robert Sondergeld and Carl Zimmerman, and sister-in-law, Carol Barkau. The family will receive friends and family from 4-8 p.m., Thursday, May 25, 2017, at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa. The funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 26, 2017, at the funeral home with burial to follow in Clay Township Cemetery. The family suggests that memorials for Betty be given to Trinity United Methodist Church, 313 Main St., Genoa, OH 43430; or Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Rd., Perrysburg, OH 43551.
