Betty Betsy Reynolds, age 94, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2016 at the Swan Creek Retirement Village in Toledo. She was born on February 16, 1922 in Hinckley, Minnesota to Fred and Harriet Idtse. She had four sisters Margaret Peg (Wayne) Garside, Connie (Russ) Jenkins, WInifred (Ronald) Plietz and Eleanor (Herb) Hawkins; and two brothers Robert Bob (Jo) and Fred (Fran) Idtse. The family moved to Indianola, Iowa when Betty was in third grade and to Beloit, Wisconsin when she was a senior in high school. Betty attended Rockford College (then a small girls college) for her freshman year then graduated from the University of Wisconsin three years later. After graduation, Betty went to Seattle Washington for her dietetic internship. With the start of World War II the army needed dietitians so Betty joined the army. After basic training she was sent to Crile Army Hospital where she met George L. Chapman of Toledo. They were married in the chapel at Crile. After the war they moved to Toledo and were fortunate to find a house in Maumee next to Mouens Hill where adults as well as children enjoyed coasting. Betsy and George had two children George (Leslie) Chapman and Connie (Mike) Dillon. Betsy had 5 grandchildren Caith, Brian and Eric Chapman and Patrick and Geoffrey Dillon; and 10 great-grandchildren. Unfortunately, George died young of malignant melanoma so he only had a few years with his own children. Betsy worked for Greyhound Food Management at St. Lukes Hospital and the Lutheran Home in Toledo and Columbus. She also taught student nurses at Flower Hospital. She delivered Mobile Meals for many years, was a Cub Scout Den Mother and a Brownie Scout Leader. Betsy was a member of the Quality of Life Club, First Presbyterian Church of Maumee, Maumee Valley Historical Society and Junior League of Toledo. Betsy met Preston Reynolds when he was visiting his sister, Harriett Day, and after several visits between Corning and Toledo, Betsy and Preston Prep were married. Preston had three daughters, Anne Wegryn, Jane (Mac) Coger and Patricia (Steven) McGowan. After Preston died , Betsy moved to Swan Creek in June of 2008 where her duplicate bridge partner lived. Betsy enjoyed the many activities and programs, the caring and helpful staff and the many wonderful friends there. A memorial service for Betsy will be in the chapel at Swan Creek Retirement Village on Tuesday at 10:30 AM with Pastors Clint Tolbert and Paul Benjamin officiating. Memorials can be made in Betsys memory to Swan Creek Life Care Fund, First Presbyterian Church of Maumee or the charity of the donors choice. Arrangements by Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, Maumee and condolences may be shared with the family at walkerfuneralhomes.com
