Betty E. Morrette, age 92, passed away July 25, 2012 at Elizabeth Scott Care Center in Maumee, OH. Betty was born April 16, 1920 in Tiffin, OH to Carl and Thelma Black Leu and moved to Toledo at the age of one where she was voted most beautiful baby by the Toledo Blade in 1921. Betty was a 1938 graduate of DeVilbiss High School and married her husband Claude J. Morrette, Jr. in 1939. Betty loved to ride horses and was very active in horse shows. She was the 1957 Queen Cowgirl in the Tri-State Rodeo Association. Betty enjoyed horse racing and loved betting at the horse track. She traveled each year to Keeneland, KY for the Breeders Cup during the Spring and Fall. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Claude; her parents; and her brother, Norton Leu. She is survived by her son, Claude J. Tootie Morrette III; grandchildren, Kathleen Mark Poddany, John Denise Monaghan, and Molly Bert Bernhardt; great-grandchildren, Joseph, Patrick, Bailey, Lila, Laura, Brantley, Kelli, Mary Kathryn, and Gerald; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday, July 27, 2012 from 2-8:00pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. where services will be held on Saturday at 10:00am. Interment will follow at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Berkey, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Child Society of Toledo or the charity of the donors choice.
