Betty Anderson, 90, passed away on February 26, 2026, in Bowling Green, OH. Betty was born on October 17, 1935 in Erie, MI, to James Cunningham and Betty Smeaton and she married George Anderson on Dec 12, 1972. She graduated from Middleton High School Haskins, OH in 1955.
Betty is survived by children, Donna (James) Miller, Lisa Born, Kenneth (Debbie) Burk; sister Bonnie Marks; niece Bernadette "Bernie" Shedron; stepsons Edgar Smith and Gregg Fouty. She leaves 9 Grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild on the way.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents James and Betty Cunningham; son, Douglas Burk; husband, George Anderson; and brothers, Jack Cunningham and Arthur (Ava) Cunningham.
Betty enjoyed many different activities throughout her life. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, soon to be Great, Great Grandmother and a cherished friend. She shared 32 years of marriage with the love of her life George (Andy). Having many jobs throughout her long life; beginning as a waitress in her father's restaurant in Bowling Green, OH. Later she got a degree as a Medical Assistant, working in the ER of the former Riverside Hospital, Toledo, OH, and at P.M.I., as their Medical Coordinator for Life Insurance medical evaluations. Betty and her husband owned the Open Season Shop in East Toledo, which was a needlework craft shop in conjunction with a gun shop, catering to both men and women interests. After they closed the shop, she became active as a volunteer for the Lutheran Guild, at the Lutheran Home in East Toledo. Eventually serving as the Guild's President, as such she organized many fund-raising events to raise money for the residents of the home.
A strong animal lover raising Siamese cats, also any stray who came her way, and at one time having 5 Shih Tzus.
She was very active as a Red Hat Society member and she enjoyed the sisterhood going to plays, and dinners. Enjoyed attending teas especially when they supported local causes such as the Manor House, Libby House and the Wood County Historical Society.
She will be remembered for her strength, her perseverance, her smile and her love of family will be her lasting legacy.
The family would like to thank the staff of Woodhaven Nursing Home Bowling Green, OH and the Rehabilitation staff, for their kindness.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 6, from 11:00 am -1:00 pm at Maison Dardenne Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Maumee, OH, where funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm. Burial will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Maumee, OH. Memorial contributions in Betty's name may be directed to an animal charity of the donor's choice.
