Betty Bachelder Cranmer, age 91, of Ottawa Hills and Naples, Florida, passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2013 in Ebeid Hospice, Sylvania. She was born October 3, 1922 in Long Island, NY. Betty attended Western University in Kalamazoo, MI where her parents and many family members lived. She married her husband Reed two days after he graduated from Michigan Medical School in 1944 . Betty raised their children while Reed served his country during World War II as a surgeon in the Army Medical Core and when he was recalled into the military during the Korean War. They moved to Toledo in 1951, where Reed practiced medicine. Betty volunteered in the Toledo Hospital gift shop for 28 years and at Meals on Wheels. She was a loving mother to five children who were born two years apart. Betty loved solving crossword puzzles and had a great memory of the smallest details. She was very proud of her children, grand children and great grandchildren who affectionately called her Nonnie. Betty was a 60 year member of the Inverness Club and a member of the Bears Paw Country Club of Naples, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Reed Cranmer; son, Thomas Reed Cranmer; and daughters, Nancy Cranmer Green and Patricia Cranmer McFarlane. She is survived by daughters Susan Bryant and Martha Douglas Nouse; grandchildren Adam and Jeffrey Bryant, and Nathan and Andrew Katie McFarlane, Jennifer Nouse and Lindsay Bill Thompson; and great grandchildren Ava and Iris McFarlane and Katelyn and James Thompson. There will be no visitation, but a family service is planned at a later date. The family suggests memorials to the Ebeid Hospice 5200 Harroun Rd. Sylvania, Ohio 43560 or the hospice of your choice.
