Betty J. Burke

Betty J. Burke, age 88, passed away March 1, 2018 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo. She was born in Farmington, Illinois and graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance. After graduation, she married Richard T. Burke and they were married almost 60 years when Richard passed away in 2013. She spent many happy years teaching piano and was a volunteer music teacher and librarian in her daughters’ schools. She particularly enjoyed the Monday Musicale organization as a performing member and scholarship judge and grantor. What is most memorable about Betty was the purity of her love. The bond between her and her husband of 59 years was renowned to all who knew them. She was a role model to her two grateful and adoring daughters. Those she encountered on a daily basis were drawn to her warmth and sincerity. Special heartfelt appreciation goes to caregivers: Melody Fry, Deana Salinas, Riannan Roos, Kim Weyandt, Fred Vankoughnet, Chris Distel, Sue Hall, and Diane Brenner. Betty is survived by daughters Diane (Brett) Varner, and Jane (Todd) Cermak, both of Sylvania, brother Kenneth (Marta) Genoni of Richmond, Virginia, grandchildren Ben and Maria Cermak, and April Varner, and nieces Mia Genoni and Marla (Brian) Norton. On Monday, March 5, 2018, the family will receive guests at Christ the King Church, 4100 Harvest Lane, Toledo, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a rosary service at 11:30 a.m. A funeral Mass of the Resurrection will begin at 12 noon. Private interment will be at Toledo Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
