Betty Louise Bain Alexander, born June 23, 1921 to Merl Elizabeth Winkler and Ronnell Bain in Bowling Green, Ohio, where she lived most of her early life except for a few years in Grand Rapids, OH. She was a graduate of the class of 1939 from the Bowling Green High School. Betty married Nelson E. Alexander on May 12, 1940, at the First Methodist Church in Bowling Green, Ohio. They lived in Bowling Green for twenty years until their move to Maumee, OH. Following graduation she worked as a cashier for J. C. Penney Co., during WWII at the Rossford Ordinance, after that she worked for several years in the business office at the Bowling Green State University. Betty began her service to the church after joining the First Methodist Church, Bowling Green in 1940 by teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was a director for the Methodist Youth Fellowship and a leader of one of the circles of the Womens Society at First Methodist Church. After transferring membership to the Maumee United Methodist Church, she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and was President of the Womens Society of Christian Service. Betty was involved as a Den Mother in Bowling Green and Maumee and the Mothers Club at Wayne Trail School, President of Band Parents and with DeMolay for Boys, President of Fallen Timbers Mothers Club and of District Mothers Club and State President of the Ohio Federation of DeMolay Mothers Club. Other memberships include, American Legion Auxiliary, Wood County Unit #45 and Palestine #51 Order of Eastern Stars, initiated into Greenwood Chapter #157, Bowling Green in 1952, transferred to Maumee Chapter #197 and May Elliott #351 where she was a past Matron 1973, 1993, 1999 before merger with Palestine Chapter. She was a member of Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Auxiliary and a past President and a past Mother Advisor of Maumee Rainbow for Girls #30. She also volunteered many years in the Scottish Rite office. Betty is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Nelson; children, Kevin L. Carol Brown Alexander and Kraig L. Alexander. grandchildren, Jennifer L. Michael Alexander Waite, Jodi J. Daniel Alexander Packard, Nicholas T. Jenna Fisck Alexander and Lindsay K. David Alexander McKitrick and 11 great grandchildren. Family and friends may call at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St., Maumee on Thursday, July 7, 2011 from 3-8 pm. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 8, 2011 at 10:30 am at Maumee United Methodist Church. Entombment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park, Sylvania, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to Rainbow for Girls, Maumee Rainbow, 119 W Wayne St., Maumee, OH 43537 or Scholarship Fund of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite 1720 Indianwood Circle Suite E, Maumee, OH 43537.
