Bertha Catherine (Strackeljohn) Leppert, 90, of Curtice, Ohio, passed away at the Genoa Care Center, Genoa, on December 4, 2020. Bertha was born on April 18, 1930, in Genoa, the youngest of four daughters , to Arthur and Mary (Finn) Clabaugh. She was raised and adopted by William and Helma (Faber) Strackeljohn of Curtice, from an early age. She graduated from Genoa High School, Class of 1948. After high school she met her future husband, James Leppert, on a blind date in Columbus, Ohio, where she resided and worked. They were married on September 3, 1950, moved back to Curtice and enjoyed 64 years together until he preceded her in death in 2015. She was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Williston, Ohio. She was a wonderful homemaker, a supportive helpmate and mother who was devoted to her husband and four children. She enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens, canning and freezing fruits and vegetables, sewing clothes for her children and preparing wonderful homemade meals for her family. She was also a gifted baker, making many wonderful cookies, cakes and deserts, but the legacy she will leave most is her delicious pies – her homemade crust was the best! She and Jim traveled extensively in their Prevost bus for almost 30 years, meeting many new people, across the nation and in many countries around the world. They were both very adventurous and loved to entertain their friends with drinks, dinners and of course, her delicious pies. Bertha lived in Curtice most of her l90 years and they even moved back into her childhood homestead where they resided for the last 50 years of their married life. Mom, you went through so much in your 90 years here on earth – good times, trying times and bad times, but you maintained a positive attitude and always looked to the brighter side of any situation. You always continued to move ahead. You were a wonderful and caring Mother and Grandmother. Now it is time for you to find peace and rest in God’s arms. We love you so much!! Bertha is survived by her four children, Chris Hamilton, Susan Kingery, Dana Leppert and Joan Leppert. She has nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren who brought much happiness and joy to her for many years. She is also survived by her sister, Ruth Hetrick of Elmore, Ohio. Her parents, husband and sisters preceded her in death. A graveside service for Bertha will be conducted at 11:30 AM, Wednesday, December 9, 2020 in the Allen Township Cemetery, Williston, Ohio. Those attending are asked to wear masks and observe social distancing protocols. The Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory of Genoa is assisting the family with arrangements.
