Bertha “Bert” Louise Hunt, age 86, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025, surrounded by love and cherished memories. She was born on October 12, 1939, in Athens, Ohio, to Nelson and Margaret Jane (McDonald) Guth.
Bert lived a full and joyful life centered around family, friendship, and adventure. She shared 55 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Leroy Wellington Hunt, with whom she built a lifetime of laughter, love, and travel. Together, they raised a family grounded in kindness and care, and Bert’s warmth touched everyone who knew her.
A woman of many passions, Bert was an avid bowler until the impressive age of 80. She proudly competed in three leagues and was a member of the 600 Club. Whether she was at the lanes or the casino, she brought the same joy and enthusiasm to everything she did—always ready for a trip to Las Vegas, Windsor, or Niagara Falls to enjoy her favorite slot machines.
Her love for travel took her to beautiful places, including Maine, Vermont, Ireland, and Scotland. When she wasn’t on the road, Bert could often be found sewing, crocheting, or quilting—crafting gifts that carried her love in every stitch. She also delighted in playing the dulcimer and clogging, embracing music and dance as expressions of joy.
Over the years, Bert worked in a variety of roles, including as a secretary, at Woolworth’s food counter, as a school crossing guard, and with Weight Watchers. No matter where she worked, she brought her caring spirit and friendly smile, making lifelong friends along the way.
Bert is survived by her loving son Nelson (Tina); her grandchildren Ann Louise Hunt and Elizabeth Jane Hunt; and her great-grandchildren Penelope Hunt, Caden Tumblin and, Asher Hunt. She is also survived by her nieces, Julie Ross and Jackie Kalisch, and nephews, Douglas Guth and Christopher Guth.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nelson and Margaret Jane Guth; husband Leroy; daughter Becky Beard; and her six brothers.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home in Sylvania. Her funeral service will take place on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
