Bernice C. Zales

Bernice C. Zales, at age 93, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 3, 2014 into the arms of our Lord and her beloved husband, Michael. Bernice was born on May 20, 1921 to Antoinette and Valentine Mista in Toledo, Ohio. She is a graduate of Woodward High School and Davis Business College. Following graduation from Davis, she worked in the legal department at Spicer Division of Dana which eventually led her to the position of Executive Legal Secretary at Dana. Bernice and Michael were married on December 27, 1942, and were blessed with 32 years of marriage. She enjoyed working in the yard, her ladies bunco and card groups, but mostly, she will be remembered for her love of baking and her famous deserts. Oatmeal cookies, carrot cake, cherry cheesecake were a tradition from her kitchen. She set an example of independence and organization, of caring and generosity, and unconditional love for the family she was blessed with. She will be dearly missed. She is survived by her children: Elaine (Douglas) Scott and James (Liz) Zales, 5 grandchildren; Lisa (Dan) Coe, Jennifer (Chris) Scott Hsi, Michael (Erika) Scott, Gary W. Zales and Nichole (Josh) Desko and 12 great-grandchildren; Patrick, Cate and Ryan Coe, Henry, Ellie and Jack Scott Hsi, Brooke and Evan Scott, Gary, Jacob and Seth Zales, Evie Desko and daughter in law, Debbie Zales. She was predeceased by her loving husband Michael, her youngest son, Gary, and three brothers, Frank, Stanley and Joseph. Friends and family will be received at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, Ohio on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 from 4:00-8:00 PM. Prayers will begin in the funeral home on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 10:15 AM followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. John XXIII Catholic Church, 24250 Dixie Hwy, Perrysburg, Ohio. Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Toledo. Suggested donation choices are the Boy Scouts of America in memory of Michael and St. John XXIII Building Fund in memory of Bernice.
