Bernice M. Nietz

Bernice M. Nietz, 92, of Walbridge, died Monday, September 14, 2015 at her home. She was born on April 26, 1923 to Carl and Esther (Hauser) Gable in Toledo, Ohio. After high school, Bernice worked at Sealtest Dairy in Toledo. She then attended Intercession City Biblical College in Florida, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Biblical Education and Theology. On October 7, 1949, Bernice married Ed Nietz, who preceded her in death. Throughout the years Bernice worked with the youth, was Director of Children’s Ministries, and taught a class for young married couples called Homebuilders. She also directed choirs and was very active in the Women’s Missionary Fellowship and served in the Tol edo Christian Women’s Group. Bernice is survived by, children, Gerald “Gary” (Connie) Nietz, Denis (Ruth Anne) Nietz, John Nietz, Gail (David) Waddell; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; siblings, Carl (Shirley) Gable, Esther Parker, Marilyn (Dale) Wagenknecht, Robert (Mary Ann) Gable, Carol (Cliff) Van Arsdalen; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Mark Nietz; siblings, Renelles Robinson; and Howard Gable. Friends will be received on Thursday, September 17, 2015 from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 701 N. Main Street, Walbridge, Ohio (419-666-3121). Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 18, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Mainstreet Church, 795 Chapel, with Pastor Martin Pennington officiating. Burial will follow at Lake Township Cemetery.
