Bernice F. Combs Berny, 80, of Port Clinton died Wed., April 27, 2011, at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo. She was born on Sept. 21, 1930, in Waltham, Mass., to Benjamin and Johanna Davis and was raised in Lynn, Mass, and Franklin, Ohio. Berny attended The Ohio State University studying occupational therapy for two years, and on Aug. 9, 1952, she married John E. Combs Jack. She enjoyed sailing, traveling, gardening, cooking, camping, reading, volunteering as a reading tutor, and spending time with her family. Berny was a member of Firelands Presbyterian Church in Port Clinton, the Sandusky Yacht Club, and the Port Clinton Power Squadron. She was a former member of the Catawba Island Club in Port Clinton, and the Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club and the Peace River Power Squadron in Port Charlotte, Fla. In addition to her loving husband of 58 years, Jack, she is survived by her children David E. Combs and wife Lauren of Texas, James Andrew Combs and wife Nancy of Texas, and Jennifer Combs Oxley and husband Scott of Seattle; two grandsons; two step-granddaughters; three step-great-grandchildren; sister Charlotte Donaldson of Centerville, Ohio; and many other loved ones. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, April 30, at Firelands Presbyterian Church in Port Clinton, with visitation from 2 to 3:30 p.m. prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Firelands Presbyterian Church Food Pantry or another charity.
