Bernard J. Weis

Bernard “Bernie” Weis, 88 of Toledo, Ohio passed away on Friday, June 17, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Maumee, Ohio to Leo and Clara (Kleeberger) Weis on August 19, 1933.  Bernie graduated from Maumee High School in 1951 and afterward met the love of his life, Patricia Ann Magrum. They were an instant couple and were  united in marriage at St. Rose Catholic Church on July 23, 1955.  They raised their family In Perrysburg and moved to Genesis Village in 2017 and Pat passed away on February 26, 2019.

Bernie was a proud American and served our country in the United States Air Force from 1952-1956.  He worked as a meat cutter for many years until his retirement.

He was a “jack of all trades” and could fix just about anything.  He was always willing to help others.

A love for a great bargain drew Bernie to visit countless garage sales, sometimes accompanied by his grandchildren.  Bernie enjoyed reading, watching the Detroit Tigers, traveling and camping, and many different genres of music. His family was the most important thing in his life.  He was a faithful Catholic man and had visited many shut ins through the church.

He was a patient father and will be dearly missed by his children Marsha (Brad) Keesee, Brian Weis, Randy (Cosette) Weis, Robin (Don Hendershot) Lafferty, Julie (Woody) Rothermund, David (Tina) Weis; grandchildren Chris (Astride) Weis, Zachary (Tiffany) Keesee, Sarah (Justin Vanderberg) Peske, Jared (Katie) Weis, Shaun Park, Lindsey (Fiancé Devin Justice-Dreier) Park, Jon (Arianna) Weis, Jayne (Joshua) Bialecki, Austin Keesee, Beth Flores, and Tom Rothermund; nine great-grandchildren; siblings Margaret Ponton and Willard (Jan) Weis; and sister-in-law Frances (Don) Rothensbuehler.

Bernie was preceded in death by his wife; parents;  and siblings Mary, Raymond, Leo, John and Helen.

A celebration of his life will be held at Witzler-Shank Walker Funeral Home (222 E. South Boundary St., Perrysburg) on Thursday, June 23, from 4 pm-7 pm with a prayer service beginning at 6:45 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 24, at Saint Rose Catholic Church (215 E. Front St., Perrysburg) beginning at 10:30 am.  Lunch will be served in the church basement immediately following the service. A private  inurnment will take place at a later date.
