Bernard H. Smith

Bernard H. "Bernie" Smith, 87, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at home with his loving family by his side. Bernie, as he liked to be called, was born in Tippecanoe, Ohio to parents Florence and Otha. Smith. He married his beloved wife Nancy L. Noel in June 1969 at Holy Rosary Church, Toledo, and shared 56 wonderful years together. Bernie was the type of person when you met him, you were no stranger to him. He enjoyed helping others and was a "jack of all trades". His wife often said, "I haven't seen anything he couldn't fix". He valued hard work, honesty, and the value of a man's word. He loved to sing and make up his own songs. He enjoyed cutting almost three acres of grass and taking walks at Maumee Bay State Park when he was able. Bernie enjoyed yard work for many people and made many friends. He was dedicated family man.

Bernie is survived by his wife, Nancy; son, Bernard Jr.; daughter, Nancy; half siblings, Ralph (Nancy) Carpenter, who he considered as his true brother, Harold "Harlen" (Linda); sisters, Margaret, Mary Ann (Bobby), Barbara; companion, Todd; along with many nieces, nephews, loving family members and friends. Preceded in death by parents; infant brother, Bradley; brothers, Bill, Denzil, Jack, Donnie, and Joe; sisters, Kathleen and Genevieve.


The family will receive friends at Walker Funeral Home, Oregon, 3500 Navarre Ave, Thursday, April 9, 2026, & Friday April 10, 2026, from 2:00 pm - 8:00pm. Funeral services Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 10:00 am in the funeral home. Interment: Restlawn Memorial Park. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice.
