Bernadine R. Smigielski

Bernadine R. (Krall) Smigielski, age 93, of Maumee, Ohio, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2022 at Ohio Living Swan Creek. She was born on April 5, 1929 to Anthony and Frances Krall. Bernadine was the 12th of 14 children and was very proud of her Polish roots and her large family. She was never at a loss for a story about the “good old days” in the Krall household. Bernadine was a graduate of Libbey High School. She was a very talented floral designer and began her career at age 13! By the age of 16, she was the head floral designer at McCartney’s Flower Shop in Toledo. That is where she met the love of her life, Norman Smigielski. They were married in 1955 and together raised their family of six children. Bernadine also volunteered for the American Cancer Society and at the Lucas County Board of Elections as Precinct Captain in Maumee for over 30 years.

Bernadine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother (Nana), great grandmother, sister, aunt and cherished friend. She also “adopted” countless others who shared in her unselfish love and her home-made goodies. In addition to her parents, Bernadine was preceded in death by her loving husband of 39 years, Norman, her son Mark and daughter-in-law Brenda, son-in-law Doug, 11 of her siblings and her beloved dog, Mandy. She is survived by her loving children: Jeanine Douglas, Norman (Sharon), Toni (Rick) Wing, Ken (Lori), and Nadine (Don) Blair, 13 grandchildren 7 great grandchildren, and sisters Pat Kowalski and Shirley Sabin. Also left to cherish her memory are many loving extended family members and dear friends.

The family will receive guests from 9:30 to 10:30 AM on Wednesday December 28, 2022 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Maumee, Ohio. A Mass of Celebration will follow at 10:30, followed by a reception at the Church. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery on Wayne St. in Maumee, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to: St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 104 W Broadway St., Maumee Ohio 43537, or The Toledo Humane Society, 827 Illinois Ave., Maumee, Ohio 43637.

Arrangements are being handled by Sujkowski Walker Funeral Home, Rossford.
