Bernadine C. La Vigne

Bernadine C. La Vigne, age 98, of Genoa, Ohio, died early Sunday morning, March 25, 2012, at Mercy-St. Charles Hospital in Oregon, Ohio, after a short illness. Bernadine was born July 17, 1913, to Elizabeth Glasier and Anthony Reinemeyer in Toledo, Ohio, the 4th of 8 children. She was a 1931 graduate of Notre Dame Academy. She later became a ladys companion in Detroit, Michigan, and then worked at Tiedkes Department Store in Toledo until her marriage November 12, 1938, to Leo V. La Vigne, whom she met at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church when her family moved to Genoa. Until retirement she worked in Genoa as a sales clerk and bookkeeper for R & R Shoe Company, which later became The Yankee Pedlar. Through the years Bernadine and Leo raised 4 children and many pets, started the churchs CYO, and enjoyed having monthly card parties alternately at several friends homes. She was a founding member of the St. Annes Study Club and a member of the K-C-Ettes. Bernadine was widowed in Florida after 50+ years of marriage, then returned to Ohio and lived on her own until entering assisted living at age 92, when she was sick of cooking. The last 3 years of her life were in Genoa Care Center, where she had the best of care. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 4 brothers and 2 sisters, 2 grandchildren, a great grandson, and a daughter-in-law. Bernadine is survived by her sister, Frances Perry; children, Robert La Vigne, Richard Lucy La Vigne, Bernadette Richard Kroetz, and Elizabeth John Buehrer; 16 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. To accommodate out-of-town family, family and friends may visit on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 204 Main St., Genoa. Bernadine will be buried with Leo in Homosassa, Florida. Memorials for Bernadine may be directed to donors choice.
