“Mother” is such a simple word, But to us there is a meaning seldom heard. For everything we are today, Mother’s love showed us the way. -Karl Fuchs Bernadine Lovina (Fish) Kornowa, 94, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday September 15, 2018. Our Mom wore many hats over the last 94 years: mother, daughter, sister, aunt, wife, Avon lady, poodle groomer, Ukrainian dancer, short order cook, golfer, seamstress, and business owner to name a few. However, her most cherished titles were given to her by her grandchildren and great grandchildren – the name Nena, Nana or Ninna. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 40 years, David Kornowa, as well as her parents, three brothers and their spouses, and Dave’s parents, sisters and brothers and their spouses. She was born in Indian Orchard, Massachusetts, but after World War II, Toledo became her home. However, family visits to Massachusetts are part of her sons’ special memories. Left behind to cherish her memory are her three sons and their families. Bernadine is survived by her sons Ron (Jean), David (Sharon), Greg (Alicia); grandchildren Jeff Kornowa (Kristie), Kelly Young (Mark), Kevin Kornowa (Renee), Erika Singler (Joe) and Jay Kornowa; and great grandchildren Layne, Hasley and Wylen Young, Lindsey, Claire and Thomas Kornowa and Elianna Kornowa. Also surviving is her younger sister Joan Paran of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; sister-in-law, Linda Fish of Indian Orchard, Massachusetts; and many nieces and nephews in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Ohio. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the staff of Bissell at Sunset Village. Your loving care of all of us, has made Mom’s journey easier and you have truly become a part of our family. The staff of Ashanti Hospice is amazing and supported all of us in our time of need. We are truly blessed! Donations can be made to Sunset Village or Ashanti Hospice. Visitation will be Friday from 4-8 p.m. in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.) where funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 22, 2018. Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
